Nonlinear was engaged by Innovapost to help facilitate a number of executive stakeholder alignment workshops in an effort to bring together stakeholders from across a number of departments to align on what Innovapost should be doing to improve and transform their business, and more specifically in the case of this project, their company intranet.

I joined the nonlinear team in time to attend the final executive stakeholder workshop, in which 10-12 high level leaders at Innovapost would identify the main priorities of the project along with 8 groups from which we would recruit participants for a series of design thinking workshops.

These sessions would take place over 4 weeks at 2 locations in Mississauga and Ottawa.

Working directly with the Director, Digital Strategy & Experience Design I helped design the content and agenda for the workshops and facilitated the 8 groups in the two locations.

First, draw how to make toast

If you’ve never seen Tom Wujec’s TED Talk “Got a wicked problem? First tell me how you make toast” then do so now. Or right after you’ve finished this case study.

This 10 minute exercise a great way to warm up your participants and forces them to think about how to break down problems into smaller chunks. This was important since we wanted the workshop participants to think about how their own challenges overlapped with and fit into the larger Innovapost ecosystem.

After warming up with the toast drawing exercise, we handed out sticky notes and asked our participants to think of all the positive and negative experiences they have: 1. Working at Innovapost in general 2. Specifically in the context of the compa

1. Working at Innovapost in general
2. Specifically in the context of the company intranet

After 15 minutes or so, participants took it in turns to stand at the front of the room and stick the notes on the wall while talking to the points they had captured.

The next step was to collectively group the stickies into themes. Then I asked participants which theme they wanted to ideate on and in this way we formed 3 or 4 small groups.
